Pelorian Calendar

Pelor is the God of the Sun.  He is also the God of Light, Healing, Strength and Agriculture.
Every race has it’s own method of keeping track of the passing of time.  Adarra uses the Pelorian Calendar which focuses on the cycles of the Sun and Moon, paying attention to the seasonal equinoxes.

  • There are 364 days in a Pelorian Year
  • There are 12 months in a Pelorian Year
  • Each month has 28 days, or 4 weeks.
  • Each week is made up of 7 days.
  • Each new day begins at Sunrise.
  • Every 3 months there is a separate 7 day period for the celebration of the beginning of the seasonal Equinox or Solstice, days of the week are the same.

Days of the month are not numbered.  Instead time is recorded by the number of the week (1,2,3 or 4) and the name of the day.  For instance: 2nd Fastingday of Frostmoon would be the equivalent to the Fastingday that falls on the second week of the month.

Days of the Week:

  • Sunsday - A Pelorian Holy Day and a day of Worship
  • Moonsday - A day of Work
  • Fieldsday - A day of Work
  • Woodsday – A day of Work
  • Cloudsday – A day of Work
  • Fastingday – A day of Fast and Rest
  • Starsday – A day of Work and Study

Months of the Year:
Winter Months -

  • 1st Month – Low Winter: Frostmoon
  • 2nd Month – High Winter: Everfreeze
  • 3rd Month – Last Winter: Coldlight
  • Winter Solstice: Snowsun

Spring Months –

  • 1st Month – Low Spring: Coldlost
  • 2nd Month – High Spring: Seedbirth
  • 3rd Month – Last Spring: Brightleaf
  • Spring Equinox: Lifesun

Summer Months -

  • 1st Month – Low Summer: Goldstar
  • 2nd Month – High Summer: Brightsky
  • 3rd Month – Last Summer: Cropripe
  • Summer Solstice:  Nightsun

Autumn Months -

  • 1st Month – Low Autumn: Harvestmoon
  • 2nd Month – High Autumn: Leafwane
  • 3rd Month – Last Autumn: Branchbare
  • Autumn Equinox: Goldsun

This calendar was made up using imagination along with a few tidbits of Pagan, Norse and Roman mythology thrown in.  Mix in the fact that I simply just didn’t like some of the names of weekdays, months and seasonal breaks in the typical “Greyhawk Calendar” (come on now… Freeday?! Doesn’t sound very “fantasy fantastic” to me).  This is a calendar of my own design for the sole purpose of entertainment and my player character’s journal keeping.
